BACKSTORY

WARNINGS FOR: sexual enslavement, sexual abuse / sexual assault, involuntary prostitution, general abuse, homophobia, mutilation, involuntary drugging.Theo was born in the jungle, like many of his kind. He was raised to be a hunter and a gatherer. He was a quiet child but very generous and giving. His society was rather reversed from the rest of the world. The women in the tribe were the warriors and the men were the hunters, gatherers, farmers, and caretakers. He grew used to women being in power and men being considered weaker (oddly enough). His life was quite comfortable, in spite of this, and he was well loved by his parents. As it was, his happy life would not remain. When he turned 20 and came of age, his father took him on his first hunting trip. They were attacked by garleans in the middle of the night. Theo watched as his father, brothers, and uncle were all slaughtered in front of him. For some reason he was spared.Taken by the garleans he was made a sex slave; in part because he was considered very beautiful. In order to keep him submissive and dependent they performed a ritual on him to take his ability to speak. They slit his throat over his larynx--the wound healed, but his voice never did. To this day he can only make soft grunts, gasps, and laugh brokenly; words are forever beyond him. Beyond depressed at the death of his family and traumatized from losing his voice, Theo became even more demure than he had been. They allowed his wound to heal, but that was the only kindness ever shown to him. Stripped naked and paraded before a crowd he was sold off like the property he'd become.His first mistress was cruel; treating him like a toy rather than a living being. His right ear was broken within the first month of their time together and now forever flops pitifully against his head. His second mistress discovered that he seemed to be incapable of becoming 'excited' when it came to her and began to drug him. The drugs forced him to become excited, whether he wanted to or not. As a viera with a long life span, he went through many mistresses and has been a slave for a very very long time. Not all his mistresses were cruel and not all his life was bad, but he's experienced much loss and he has a hard time experiencing sexual pleasure without being drugged.There was a time that he found he actually enjoyed the act of sexual intimacy. One of his mistresses had a husband who was very kind to Theo. Whether he genuinely cared for Theo or was simply using him remains a mystery. As for the young viera, he loved him. The man taught Theo ESO (eorzean sign language) and helped him appreciate the joys of pleasure in a way he'd never known. Of course, the affair was discovered. His mistress, enraged, punished him harshly--leaving a mess of scars all over his back. The man was sent off to war and never returned. Utterly devastated, Theo never dared to fall in love again.His life continued in this manner, being passed from mistress to mistress until one day he became the property of a female commander in the garlean army. The base she was posted on was raided and Theo, among a few other slaves, was freed from garlean grasp at long last. With no remaining memory of where his home was and no family, Theo had nowhere to go and no idea how to survive in the real world. One of the men in the resistance that had freed him took Theo in and has been caring for him.Traumatized by his time as a sex slave, Theo is afraid of touch and doesn't really like sleeping with someone unless he deeply trusts him. He's also developed a slight fear of women. It's not why he's gay, make no mistake, but he'll tend to shy away from them or hide behind his paladin caretaker.
